SINGER Stacy Anam was back in action with a “bang” at the recent Anugerah Skrin 2017, singing her power-packed new song, Cakap Ke Tangan, complete with robust dance moves.
The mother of 9-month-old Eshaal, and wife of singer Akim Ahmad, however, lamented that her voice sounded “manly” after giving birth last February, making her turn down offers to perform in the months that followed.
“My voice didn’t sound as it was. It became ‘coarser’, and this worried me.
“At one point, I told Akim that I might have to leave showbusiness till I get back my voice,” said Stacy in a recent interview.
Stacy, whose real name is Ummu Shaikhah, thought that her changed voice was the related to her pregnancy, and tried remedies, including attending vocal classes, to treat her problem.
“Akim tried to help me by getting us a karaoke set so that I could practice singing with him at home — this worked to an extent, but more needed to be done.”
Over the last seven months, Stacy persevered by practising with the karaoke set and working out at a gymnasium to boost her stamina and improve her dancing skills.
“Thank God, things gradually began to improve. I’m lucky to have been able to perform at Anugerah Skrin.
“I still have a lot of catching up to do, but I’m now confident that things will be back to normal,” she added.
