KUALA LUMPUR: Beautiful singer of popular South Korean girl group Mamamoo, Hwa Sa, is no stranger to receiving tonnes of fan mail but one she got recently was a heart-warming standout.

A news report by Allkpop stated that a post, titled “A letter dedicated to Mamamoo's Hwa Sa” was shared on an online community board yesterday.

In it were pictures of handwritten letters written by a leukemia patient and her mother who had decided to thank the idol star, whose real name is Ahn Hye-jin.

The thank you letters revealed that the child was sponsored by the 22-year-old singer and rapper, who had donated funds to the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation.

One letter read: "Hello, this is Hwan Ah's mother. My child has recently been sponsored thanks to your supportive gift. I've always watched your performances on TV but who would have thought I would be writing a thank you letter directly to you."

The patient's mother then elaborated on how she was devastated by the unfortunate news that her child was diagnosed with leukemia, which she had thought was only a common cold at first.

She also mentioned that she was fired from her job and experienced great financial hardship.

Unable to cope with the overwhelming fees for the treatment, the family decided to apply for sponsorship through the organisation and received support from Hwa Sa.

The letter then read: "We can't help but express how thankful we are in words. Thanks to your assistance, it feels as if our family was met by a single ray of light."

In another letter written by Hwan Ah, the 6th Grader declared: "I watched your performance videos on YouTube while I was being treated at the hospital. I feel energised and strengthened by your performances."

The enthusiastic fan then added: "To be honest, I've been feeling down just seeing my parents worried about the hospital payments. But thanks to Hwa Sa unnie's help they seem to be doing a lot better. I am happy."

Her letter ended with a cute but poignant statement of intent: "I hope to get well soon and sing 'Decalcomanie' at noraebang/karaoke with my mom."
