Food delivery company Mammam Deliveries adds healthy options to its menu.

MAMMAM Deliveries is well known for its freshly cooked local dishes.

Its menu offers meals such as ayam masak lemak cili api, Indian fish curry, butter chicken, tom yam fried rice, nasi lemak, mee goreng mamak and char kuey teow.

While all these dishes are popular and favourites among Malaysians, none of them fall into the healthy meal category.

However, since October, the company has included several low-calorie meals in its menu.

Chief executive officer and founder Chandrasegaran Uthamaseelan says the healthy options have been made available due to increasing demand.

“We often have requests for low-calorie meals so we decided to start with salads but even before that, we offered healthier options or versions of our existing dishes. For example when someone orders tom yam fried rice, he can choose brown rice instead of white.

“Our chef has also made subtle changes to some of our local favourites to make them more healthy. We don’t use monosodium glutamate in our dishes, which is one of our selling points, says Chandrasegaran.

In an effort to expand its healthy meals menu, the company has collaborated with Quaker Oats to create a few low-calorie meals using oats.

Quaker Oats wants to educate the public that oats are not only for breakfast and can be used to create main meals as well.

MORE THAN 30 DISHES

Since this month, Mammam Deliveries’ low-calorie meals include Thai paprik stewed seafood with brown rice; wholewheat capati with eggplant masala and mackeral puttu; carrot and black mustard seed semolina with lentil stew; Poke Bowl with brown rice; avocado, tuna and cucumber; and low fat chicken and mushroom quessadillas.

Mammam Deliveries started its business in April last year and currently has more than 30 dishes, which are certified halal by Jakim. At the moment, it is the only on-demand food delivery in the Klang Valley.

“That is our advantage. It is convenient for people who don’t have time to cook or go out. They can order our food throughout the day.”

In addition to its central kitchen at Petaling Jaya Commercial City, Mammam Deliveries set up its first dine-in outlet at Centro Mall, Klang last December.

“We are creating a brand that functions not only in the Klang Valley but, eventually, nationwide. It is important to try different options and one of them is opening dine-in outlets. Eventually we may offer a franchise nationwide.”

The company plans to open outlets in Cyberjaya, Cheras, Kepong, Bangi and Segambut. These outlets will also help reduce delivery time to 45 minutes from the current 60 to 90 minutes.

Mammam Deliveries has 43,000 registered customers and delivers between 700 and 800 meals a day.
