Offering a comfortable stay near several attractions, Best Western i-City Shah Alam gets a thumbs-up from Loong Wai Ting for its good service
“SHAH Alam?” I flash a puzzled look as I try to hide my lack of enthusiasm for a weekend staycation at Best Western i-City Shah Alam.
Ihad hoped for a beach getaway despite a recent fantastic seaside holiday but, hey, a staycation in Selangor can’t be that bad, right? Shah Alam has affordable good eats, so I can go on a food hunt.
So, with an overnight bag in hand, I take a 45-minute drive to the hotel from my office in Bangsar via Federal Highway.
Finding the hotel isn’t hard: You won’t miss the huge signage plastered on the top of the 18-storey hotel. The hotel is located within the i-City compound, making it reallyconvenient if you’re visiting the theme park.
At check-in, the friendly employee welcomes me with a complimentary drink. As I’ve booked my room earlier, checking-in is a breeze.
I’ve made a mistake of not requesting for a non-smoking room. So when I enter the Deluxe Room on the 14th floor, the horriblesmell hits me.
I ask for a change of room, which the employee obligesswiftly.
In no time, I’m put up in a new room on the 16th floor which smells like freshly laundered clothes.
The Deluxe Room comes with either a king bed or twin beds. Both rooms come with complimentary WiFi, a small working desk, 32-inch LCD TV, safe box, toilet with basic amenities, tea/coffee sachets, hair dryer and a mini fridge. At night, the surrounding area comes to life, with lights illuminating every ride and street within the i-City limit.
The toiletriesprovided are sufficient for a short stay but I suggestthat you bring your own shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
The bed is huge, soft and comfortable. There are four super soft pillows for each king-size bed. For a small hotel like this one, the bed is one of the highlights of my stay.
The air-conditioning is not centralised and the one in my room makes a noise throughout my stay. Every few minutes, it cranks to life, sounding like someone is having a bad coughing fit.
Complimentary breakfast isat The View Cafe on the fifth floor. The cafe serves local and international delights.
Here, diners can opt to sit inside the cafe or outside, under the sun.
Generally, the food is good, but not piping hot. The porridge, for one, is at room temperature.
For those who want to conduct business, there are meeting facilities such as conference rooms and three well-appointed meeting rooms, which can easily accommodate 40 or a maximum of 140 people when all the conference rooms are available for a private banquet event.
Modern audio visual facilities are also available with complimentary WiFi throughout the meeting venue and foyer.
There is ample parking at the multi-storey parking bays.
Overall, the hotel is a good stay. Its high ceiling design lets natural lightingin. Even the room gets plenty of sunshine in the morning, and is not too hot in the afternoon.
I also love the simple and yet chic design of the hotel, making it a comfortable stay.
The service is good and commendable as well. The employees are friendly and approachable. They attend to you in no time and are attuned to guests’ needs.
