KUANTAN: Pahang media and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have come together to hold a car wash charity drive on Feb 3 to raise funds for baby’s a heart surgery.

In the run-up to the Saturday Charity Car Wash event, the Adik Fahim Aqeed Fund was launched here today to gather donations from the public.

Funds collected are to finance the operation for 6-month-old Fahim Aqeed Mohamad Feisal, who has been warded at Temerloh Hospital since his birth on July 7 last year.

Aqeed’s father, Mohamad Feisal Mohamed Norawi, a journalist with Sinar Harian, said his youngest son suffers from ventricular septal defect (VSD) and lung problems, adding that the boy has also been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, among other health conditions.

The 36-year-old father of four said he and his wife, Musazlila Mustapar, 36, had brought Aqeed to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur thrice since August last year for consultation on possible treatment.

“He has breathing difficulties,” said Feisal during the launch of the fund at the Reezqi Autospa in Jalan Merdeka here today.

He said on Nov 29 last year, Aqeed underwent a RM20,000 operation at IJN to treat excess fluid in the lung, which seeped out of the organ’s blood vessels.

“He had to go through the surgery because he was vulnerable to infection which stunted his growth.”

He said the family was thankful to the government for subsidising RM15,000 of the operation’s cost.

Feisal said the family hoped that Aqeed can undergo a corrective surgery, which costs RM30,000, at IJN in March.

“We would be grateful for any contribution and donation that would lessen our financial burden,” he said.

Present at the event was Adik Fahim Aqeed Fund programme coordinator Noor Shamsiah Mohamed and Persatuan Kebajikan Ukhwah dan Silaturrahim Pahang (Ukhwah) president Zulkefly Senek.

Zulkefly said Ukhwah aimed to raise RM8,000 from the charity car wash event.

The event is expected to attract 500 vehicles at Reezqi Autospa, from 8.30am to 5pm on Feb 3.

Among others involved in organising the event are the Pahang Malaysia Youth Council (MBM), Drug Intervention Community Pahang and the state Fire and Rescue Department.
