KUANTAN: Indera Mahkota Barisan Nasional's (BN) component parties will hold a meeting next week to finalise and strengthen their election machinery for the 14th general election (GE14).
Indera Mahkota Umno chief Datuk Mustaffar Kamal Abdul Hamid said that the meeting follows a discussion held with local Umno, MCA and MIC branches recently.
"GE14 is very near, and we believe that a meeting involving all leaders of component parties must be held immediately for effective planning.
"I have already relayed this to representatives from MCA and MIC. They agree that everybody should attend the meeting next week," he said when met here on Sunday.
Mustaffar Kamal said the 78 Umno branches of Indera Mahkota have each held their respective meetings focussing on GE14 preparations.
He added that based on feedback from Indera Mahkota residents, BN's chances of wresting back the Parliamentary seat and its two state seats – Semambu and Beserah – are excellent.
"We do not see any major issue that the opposition can play up. Their service record here is also not particularly good.
"Even so, we will continue to work hard by going down to the ground to meet the people in a consistent manner, rather than doing so only when elections are near," he said in a veiled reference to the opposition.
"We work to give service (to the people) every time, not just seasonally," he said in another jibe at the opposition.
In the 13th general election (GE13), the Indera Mahkota Parliamentary seat was won by PKR candidate Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman with 7,523 votes, beating Datuk Seri Wan Adnan Wan Mamat (BN) and independent candidate G. Ponusamy.
For the Semambu state seat, PKR candidate Lee Chean Chung beat Datuk Pang Tsu Ming (BN) with a vote majority of 3,200.
For the Beserah state seat, Pas candidate Andansura Rabu beat Datuk Mohd Hazmi Yusof with a 3,987 vote majority.
