KUANTAN: Pahang Umno Youth wants Pokok Sena member of parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar to be probed under the Sedition Act 1948 for making an insulting statement on the health of Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, that went viral.
The state party youth wing also urged Mahfuz to make an open apology to Sultan Ahmad Shah over his (Mahfuz) shallow and unacceptable act done as part of a joke during a political ceramah recently.
In a statement issued today, Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah said that Mahfuz's action of belittling and insulting Sultan Ahmad Shah symbolises opposition leaders' insolence and shallow-mindedness that disrespects the country's royal institution.
"Mahfuz's insolent action of comparing Sultan Ahmad Shah with Pakatan Harapan leader (chairman) Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) is an act of stupidity that should never have been done by an elderly politician such as him (Mahfuz), who should have understood better the nation's legal system and royal institution," he said.
Shahar said that although Pakatan Harapan leaders had played politics involving a Sultan, who is Malaysia's constitutional ruler, Mahfuz's act of shaming and politicising Sultan Ahmad Shah's health had crossed the boundary.
"Mahfuz needs to remember that despite being a member of parliament, he is still subject to the law when giving ceramah to the public," he said.
He sternly reminded Mahfuz that the country's leaders regardless of political affiliation must respect the royal institution that upholds the sovereignty, integrity, stability and prosperity of the country.
Shahar said this was especially so as the royal institution safeguards the sanctity of Islam and preserves the interests of the Malays in Malaysia.
He added that Pahang Umno Youth will lodge a police report over the issue at the district police station here at 4pm tomorrow.
