KUALA LUMPUR: American Pat Perez became the oldest winner of the CIMB Classic at 41-years, seven-months and 14-days after closing his round at 69 in his first appearance of the PGA Tour 2017/18 season today.

Perez claimed his third PGA Tour win after playing to a four-day aggregate of 24-under-par 264 to lift the trophy, and walk away with US$1.26 million (RM5.32million) after shooting to a four-shot lead over compatriot Keegan Bradley (20-under-par 268).

Xander Schauffele, who hoped to become the first player since Jordan Spieth to win back-to-back events on the Tour, has to be satisfied with his joint third place finish due to four-bogeys for a four-round aggregate of 17-under-par 271.

The best Malaysian finish at the tournament is current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Gavin Kyle Green who played even par golf (288) at joint 61st with America’s Jim Herman.

The prize giving ceremony held this afternoon was graced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who arrived at 1pm and spent about 3 hours watching the finals.

Also present were CIMB Group Holdings Berhad's chief executive officer and executive director Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz Tengku Abdul Aziz, Sapura Energy president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin and PGA Malaysia chairman Valrick Harris.

"CIMB Classic has become one of Asia's finest golf events, thus we are looking forward to expanding the CIMB Classic purse next year," Zafrul said before congratulating Perez on his outstanding performance.

He added that Perez was impressive at the tournament and had broken a number of CIMB Classic's records.

A total of 79 players from all around the world participated in the four-days golf tournament which kicked off on Thursday.
